Our mission is simple: to reduce reoffending in the UK.

OUR MOTIVATION

According to the Ministry of Justice, 38% of adults who leave prison in the UK are reconvicted within a year of release. This cycle of reoffending disrupts lives, prevents people from contributing to society and costs an estimated £18 billion annually.

Of those who are reconvicted, 59% are unemployed. This is why we are focused on delivering training and creating opportunities that help prison leavers to access employment.

OUR WORK

The Redemption Roasters Foundation was launched in 2023 to push the boundaries of what's possible in reducing reoffending. The Foundation is a registered charity and is independent of Redemption Roasters, but we share a mission of reducing reoffending.

Having our own Foundation means we can scale our training programmes, support more prison leavers into work, and encourage other employers to offer second chances. It's our way of going further: using what we've learned to create lasting change, both inside and outside the prison system.

training and employment

We run coffee training programmes that support prison leavers to secure jobs in the hospitality sector. Our training focuses on barista, speciality coffee and customer service skills. Our training is hands-on and interactive, with a focus on the skills you need to shine during a trial-shift in a coffee shop.

-

innovation

We use our Foundation to try new things. We trial ideas and initiatives that could help prison leavers start a new chapter.

-

championing inclusive hiring

We know prison leavers make great employees, and encourage other employers to offer second chances and reduce barriers to participation. Our focus is on creating pathways into work for prison leavers who complete our training and want to work in hospitality.

hardship fund

We administer a Hardship Fund, providing small-scale financial support to recently trained and employed prison leavers to help them succeed at work. Our goal is to remove barriers that could destabilise someone’s chance of accessing sustainable employment.

-

Setting up a charity reflects our unwavering commitment to balancing profit with purpose. It provides a dedicated platform for our education and impact work, offering donors confidence and reinforcing our accountability."
