ESQUIPULAS: OUR SINGLE ORIGIN ESPRESSO COFFEE

We are excited to introduce you to our single origin espresso from Nicaragua - Esquipulas.

The producer of Esquipulas, Arlin Andino comes from a coffee growing family, so she has always been familiar with the production of coffee. However, it wasn’t until 2017 that Arlin started producing coffee on her own farm. For Arlin, this is a total passion, and it’s very important to her to maintain the right varieties on her farm that will have the potential to produce specialty coffee. She is fascinated by the craft surrounding the growing of coffee, and every step is taken with the utmost love and dedication.

Arlin has learnt through her experience that producing high quality coffee is not something you can just improvise. Coffee production is a process that requires time, effort, and love. She understands that effort is required constantly and consistently during every step of coffee production, and you can taste the amount of effort poured into the production of Esquipulas. According to Arlin, “When you drink a cup of coffee, most of the time you don’t think about all the work behind it, all the people that with their hands are involved with the process. I’ve involved myself in all these activities, I’ve placed myself in the shoes of the people that work with me, and from there, I can see the real value of a cup of coffee. This means that, when a person drinks a coffee produced on my farm, they’re drinking all the hard work and effort.”

The proof really is in the pudding, or should we say coffee. Esquipulas is a coffee of both high quality and depth, with a smooth and sweet flavour profile, with notes of milk chocolate, almond, and dates. Getting slightly more technical for the coffee connoisseurs who might be reading this, Esquipulas has a gentle malic acidity leading into a rich sweetness of almonds and dates. There's also a subtle florality and vanilla spiciness in the aroma, and it's rounded out by a milk chocolate aftertaste.

Besides producing great coffee, Arlin seeks to protect the sources of water on the farm where she produces her coffee. Additionally, she is very proud of the fact that she pays the people that work on her farm fairly, which not all producers can say they do. Arlin’s work does not end there. She is now also focusing on improving her community’s development. Specifically, she is building a school on her farm for children to go and study, learn about coffee, ultimately widening their opportunities in life. We are so proud to say that we get to supply this wonderful, fairly produced coffee, and truly admire the ways in which Arlin seeks to give back to her community.
