Supplier Code of Conduct
1. Introduction
Redemption Roasters is a social enterprise and integrity necessarily governs our approach to business. We wish to be recognised by our stakeholders as a responsible corporate citizen.
We expect our suppliers to share our commitments and approach and accordingly expect them to adhere to the guidelines set out in this supplier code of conduct (the “Code”). Accordingly, any supplier of Redemption Roasters, must indicate their agreement to comply with the Code.
2. Laws and regulations
Suppliers shall:
a. comply with all material applicable local and national laws, rules, regulations and requirements regarding the provision of products and services manufactured and provided to Redemption Roasters. This includes compliance with the International Labour Organisation (ILO) Core Conventions.
b. Maintain and enforce such standards within its own supply chain.
3. Underage labour
Suppliers shall ensure that no underage labour has been used in the production or distribution of goods and services to Redemption Roasters. Underage labour is any labour involving any person either under the minimum (i) employment age according to the laws of the country where the product (or parts of) or services are sourced from, or (ii) age for completed mandatory education.
4. Forced labour
Suppliers shall not use or tolerate in their supply chain:
a. Any form of slavery, servitude, indentured, bonded, involuntary prison, military or compulsory labour or any form of human trafficking. All work must be conducted voluntarily and without threat of any undue penalty or sanctions.
b. Retention of original government-issued identification, passports or work permits by the supplier as a condition of employment.
c. Any supplier with rules curtailing any workers’ rights to: (i) leave the workplace after their shift, (ii) terminate their employment after reasonable notice, or (iii) receive owed salary.
5. Freedom of association
a. Suppliers shall respect the rights of workers to associate or not to associate with any group, as permitted by and in accordance with, all applicable laws regarding freedom of association and collective bargaining.
b. Suppliers shall not interfere with or discriminate against workers choosing to belong to such groups.
c. Where the right to freedom of association and collective bargaining is restricted under national law, suppliers will facilitate alternative means of independent and free association and bargaining.
6. Discrimination
Suppliers shall promote:
a. an inclusive and diverse work environment with equal opportunities;
b. fair and equitable treatment for workers;
c. a recruitment process that does not unlawfully discriminate against any person based on age, gender, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, colour, disability, religion, political affiliation, union membership, national origin or marital or pregnancy status; and
d. a workplace free from any form of harassment or threat of harassment.
7. Wages and benefits
Wages and benefits must meet any applicable legal requirements
8. Working hours
Suppliers shall ensure working hours comply with applicable local laws subject to any permissible opt outs given freely and in accordance with due process
9. Healthy and safe working conditions
Suppliers must provide safe and clean conditions for workers at all its working and residential facilities. Clear procedures must be in place to ensure regulated occupational health, safety and wellbeing standards are adhered to.
10. Environment
Suppliers must have clear procedures in place to ensure direct and indirect environmental impacts associated with the goods and services are understood, measured and managed.
11. Business integrity
Suppliers shall comply with all applicable laws and industry codes dealing with government procurement, conflicts of interest, corruption or bribery.
12. Discipline and grievances
a. Suppliers shall provide a grievance mechanism for workers that is anonymous, transparent and accessible.
b. Disciplinary procedures shall be clearly documented, communicated and easily accessible to all workers.
c. All disciplinary matters shall be recorded in accordance with applicable laws and guidelines.
13. Compliance with the Code
Suppliers must be able to demonstrate compliance with the Code and shall respond promptly to any reasonable request for further information or disclosure.
Any supplier concerned about their compliance with the code should report such concern to their usual contact at Redemption Roasters or, alternatively to one of the directors.
We are committed to supporting our local economy as much as possible. We therefore aim to purchase at least 50% of costs from local and independent customers, and serve at least 75% of local and independent clients.
