Fauna
This April we are spotlighting Fauna as our coffee concept of the month. This is a café based in Edinburgh, using Redemption Roasters coffee, owned by Meric Ozan Karadohan and Mutlu Karagogan (pictured on the left).
We spoke with Meric and asked him some questions about his business. Read on to find out more.
You can find them on Instagram @fauna_edinburgh
Make sure to stop by Fauna if you're in Edinburgh!
Tell us a bit about your business, and the motivation for starting the brand?
After 15 years of media experience, Fauna is our first project in hospitality. A long-term coffee shop project that is open to change and development, parallel to the constant change of society, never remaining as it is, and always continuing to renew itself.
Many people have limited time during the day for coffee. It may be a small detail for everyone, but it is a moment that affects the course of the day.
Our mission is to ensure that every coffee we offer is good, and that the person who spends time and money on that coffee and chooses us for it will not leave Fauna unhappy.
Why do you like using Redemption Roasters’ coffee?
The delicious coffee options that emerge as a result of the production line, which starts mostly with small producers and ends with helping reduce reoffending, make you wonder what more could there be?
It is good for us to be able to contribute to RR's mission and to make it more publicised and normalised.
Where do you see your business going in five years?
We recently opened the second site, with the same mission but a different concept. Our goal is to keep the customer experience of these two coffee shops at a high level and to be able to carry this to other parts of the city.
What’s next for your business?
To bring our newly opened Heart and Bottle to its best potential and to make a few improvements that Fauna needs.
What is your favourite thing about your business?
Being both local and global. We have had regular local customers since the beginning and many visitors from all over the world who come and leave satisfied. It’s a wonderful feeling to hear from all kinds of customers that they had the best coffee they’ve ever had!
What have been some of your biggest learning experiences in running your business?
Being proactive and kind gets you more than you think.
Always striving to be better in every aspect of business always has positive returns.
Problems and things to learn never end, as long as you stay calm and take action you can keep going further.
Finally, what’s your favourite coffee to make and Redemption Roasters product?
We are The Yard lovers and we like to drink and serve seasonal single origins on every Wednesday at Fauna.
