‘Working with Redemption on the inside made me comfortable about coming into a familiar role when I was released.’ - Case study from O

O began his Redemption Journey on one of our in-custody training programmes and is now employed in one of our shops.

In October 2022, O completes our three week barista course in HMP Pentonville; mainly because he has heard you get to drink lots of coffee! In February 2023, following a transfer to HMP High Down, O completes our barista and technician training. He enjoyed learning about coffee before and is motivated to further his skill set.

In April 2023, he becomes a mentor for subsequent courses, helping the trainers deliver their programmes. He continues to spend time proactively practicing his own skills.

Following release and community training, he joins a Redemption Roasters store in March 2024 and settles into his new role very quickly. In April, his curfew is removed and he moves into a new flat, allowing him to take on opening and closing shifts in the shop.

O continues to thrive in the shop working two days a week, alongside taking an online network engineering course.

He is a great example of someone who has taken the opportunity presented to him and continues to go from strength to strength as he seeks a more positive future for himself.
