In March 2024, Redemption Roasters introduced optional tipping at shop till points.
If a customer wishes, they may leave a tip of 10%, 15% or 20% of their bill; there’s always an option to leave no tip.
All tips go directly to staff working in our shops as a supplement to salary, and are split in relation to hours worked. Shop staff receive 100% of tips.
23% of our shop staff are Participants (people who have lived experience of the Criminal Justice System), and so by tipping, customers are having a direct impact on supporting Redemption’s social mission: reducing reoffending through coffee.
At Redemption, our impact model is informed and shaped by the guidance of those with lived experience of the Criminal Justice System. We have identified six pillars of support, which universally helps Participants break the cycle of reoffending and see a positive future for themselves and those around them. The six pillars are:
- Employment
- Community
- Education and training
- Housing
- Confidence
- Wellbeing
This additional source of income for our Participant staff helps with building upon the six pillars, and allows our customers the opportunity to directly thank staff and continue to build upon Redemption’s impact work.
‘I can come in and earn an honest day’s living and feel so good about it.’ - Redemption Roasters’ Participant

Thank you for your continued support.
