Redemption Roasters is on a mission to reduce reoffending through coffee. Today, we are incredibly proud to announce that this commitment has been recognised with the prestigious King’s Award for Enterprise.

Founded in 2015 by Ted Rosner and Max Dubiel, Redemption Roasters began when the Ministry of Justice approached them to establish a prison-based roastery. The aim was to provide in depth training to help prison leavers break the cycle of reoffending.

A decade of social impact

In the decade since, we have continued to develop and strengthen our impact. Our model works in three main ways: training in prison and the community, employment in our shops and employment in our roastery.

In 2025, we had a 0% known reoffending rate among our employed Participants, a stark contrast to the national average of 38%. To date, we have equipped 707 individuals in custody with professional barista skills, and we are proud that over a third of our current coffee shop workforce is Participants.*

The King’s Award for Enterprise: Celebrating social impact through coffee

The King’s Award for Enterprise celebrates our work in promoting opportunity through social mobility. This honour is a testament to the innovation of our model and our dedication to sustainable development. More importantly, it celebrates the real lives changed and the society-wide impact of reducing reoffending, one cup at a time.

Co-founder Max Dubiel said ‘We’re thrilled to have been recognised for our work at Redemption Roasters with a King’s Award. This award is a direct result of everyone in the team’s hard work since we began our mission to reduce reoffending through coffee back in 2015. I’m really proud that 2025 was our most impactful year to date, and I’m excited to continue to strengthen our impact work and be recognised for all the work we’ve done to date.’

The King’s Award serves as a significant milestone for our social impact work within local communities, and we’re so proud to have been recognised.
